American Entertainment Taking Over?

Every time you turn on the radio or look at the movies playing at the local theatre, one thing is consistent; the majority of the shows originate from the United States.

Whether you are tuning in to your favourite comedy hour, heading down to the theatre to view the latest blockbuster hit, or even just reading a magazine, your senses are assaulted with the American way of life.  American music, American clothing, American humour.  Ever so slowly, it is gnawing at our Canadian culture.

There must be some way to halt the overwhelming influx of American media.  Doing so is critical in keeping our nation separate from our neighbours below.  A study in Edmonton and Calgary shows that one third of our young people watch a movie a week, whilst one in five will watch at least two movies a months.  And nearly all of these movies were made in Hollywood!  These films are playing a key part in building our children’s morals and values.

This influx of American media is likely to destroy the Canadian way of life.  The movies and pop culture are teaching our children American values and to follow the American dream.  If something is not done about this, we could lose the Canadian way of life forever!
